TOC II Application


The Teacher Opportunity Corps (TOC) program is funded by the New York State Education Department and is designed to increase the number of New York State teachers from underrepresented backgrounds. Individuals in the following underrepresented groups will be given first priority: Asian; Black/African American; Hispanic/Latino, American Indian and Alaskan Native; Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander. Second priority will be given to individuals who are economically disadvantaged, and third priority will be given to individuals who are neither historically underrepresented nor economically disadvantaged.

Participant Eligibility

  • Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Must be a New York State Resident i.e. have lived in NY at least 12 months prior to participating in this program, and have an established domicile/permanent residence in NY
  • Must be enrolled in a teacher certification program at TC
  • Must be committed to teaching in NY after graduation for at least 2 years, preferably in an urban setting

Components of the Award*

  • 6 scholarship/tuition points per academic year toward TC courses
  • $2000 stipend for a 10 month internship at a school near TC

Program Requirements

  • Participation in a 10 month internship from September-June at a partnership school near TC for 4-7 hours per week (Internship sites are assigned by the TOC program; details will vary depending on the needs of the P-12 school)
  • Attendance in TOC seminars with top TC faculty  (3 sessions per semester)
  • Attendance in TOC Workspaces (2-3 sessions per semester)
