DESCRIPTION: The 6th Superintendents Roundtable to be held on the campus of Teachers College Columbia University on Thursday, November 15th (6-7:30pm). This roundtable is a monthly professional development think-tank with provocative guests who challenge participants to re-consider innovation and creativity in education. Topic: Urban School Turnaround: Mission Impossible? By Dr. DeWayne Davis, Los Angeles Unified School District Currently, there is considerable debate on the sustainability of urban school turn around efforts.  In 2009, the Obama Administration announced its intention to "turn-around" 5,000 of the nation's lowest performing schools.  Since that time, school districts have scrambled to find district and school-level leaders who specialize in this work.  Our November guest is Dr. DeWayne Davis of Los Angeles Unified School District who is a turn-around specialist.  He has been a principal in some of LA's most challenging schools.  Dr. Davis has been widely recognized for his accomplishments in transforming urban underperforming  schools - having turned several into notable academic institutions.  Join us in a discussion with Dr. Davis about the leadership skills needed to successfully turn around urban schools and how to build sustainable cultures of academic excellence.   Date:  November 15, 2012 Venue:  Zankel 109 (Trustee Room) Cost:  $30 with dinner {Special Event - May attend at 6:30 after dinner for free} Time:  6:00-7:30pm All checks must be received by noon on 11/12/12.
