The seminar on education quality and faculty development is jointly organized by the Center on Chinese Education, Teachers College Columbia University and the National Academy of Education Administration, China.
International Conference on Chinese Education
The conference is organized by the Center on Chinese Education. Most of the sessions will be devoted to presentations by scholars of Chinese education; and some sessions are set aside for doctoral students specializing in Chinese education.

Advanced Seminar on Education Management for Basic-Education Leaders from China
This series of seminars is intended for basic-education leaders from China, including basic-education officials at various levels, and principals of primary, middle, and high schools. The series is devoted to an in-depth understanding of important issues, policies, and reforms in basic education. Each seminar of the series will have a major theme on primary and secondary education. It consists of presentations and discussions held at Teachers College, and a field study of schools and education organizations in and around New York City.
Participants of the seminar will have an opportunity to: (1) acquire a better understanding of issues, policies, innovations, best practices, and reform efforts in basic education; (2) acquire a better understanding of professional development activities for leaders of basic education; (3) have active interaction with leaders of K-12 education in the United States, and (4) have the opportunity to reflect on the relevance of U.S. and Chinese education experience for each other. The seminar seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of participants as leaders of basic education.
This seminar series is jointly organized by the Center on Chinese Education, Teachers College Columbia University, USA, and the Center for Education Development, Chinese Society of Education, China.
The first Advanced Seminar on Education Management for Basic-Education Leaders from China was held at Teachers College Columbia University on October 24 to November 1, 2005. The seminar was jointly organized by the Center on Chinese Education, Teachers College Columbia University, USA, and the Center for Education Development, Chinese Society of Education, China. It consisted of presentations and discussion at Teachers College, and a field study of schools and other education organizations around the New York City area. The major theme of the seminar was School Reform to Improve Learning for All Children. Participants consisted of 24 primary & secondary school principals and local government education officials from several urban centers in China. At Teachers College, Professor Mun Tsang was the Seminar Organizer, with Professor Henry Levin and Professor Thomas Sobol serving as Senior Academic Advisors. Dr. Wallace Wang was the Project Manager for seminar operation. The Chinese delegation was led by Ms. Qing Chang, with assistance from Mr. Xun Li.
The second Advanced Seminar on Education Management was held at Teachers College Columbia University on November 13-17, 2006. It consisted of presentations and discussion at Teachers College, and a field study of schools around the New York City area. Like the first seminar held last year, the major theme of the second seminar was school reform to improve learning for all children. Participants consisted of 25 primary and secondary school principals, directors and vice directors of educator bureaus, and other educators from China. We invited TC professors and the directors from the professional associations in the U.S. to make lectures about education leadership, curriculum and teaching, teacher evaluation, school choices, etc.
The Chinese delegation was led by Mr. Yan Wang of the Center Education Development, Chinese Society of Education. At Teachers College, Professor Mun Tsang was the organizer and Mr. Dakai Li was the Project Manager.
The third Advanced Seminar on Education Management was held at Teachers College Columbia University on April 2 to 6, 2007. It consisted of presentations and discussion at Teachers College, and a field study of schools in New Jersey State. Like the previous two seminars, the major theme of the third seminar focused on effective education leadership and school reform. The speakers shared their experiences and research in the standards of effective school leadership, teacher evaluation, school finance, and so on. Participants consisted of 31 primary and secondary school principals, chancellors, and other educators from China. Besides, the participants visited South Orange-Maplewood School Districtand learned the "multiple intelligences" model developed by Harvard University's Howard Gardner. They also visitedMcNair Academic High School, the best public high school in the New Jersey State. The Chinese delegation was led by Mrs. Hui Jin of the Center Education Development, Chinese Society of Education. At Teachers College, Professor Mun Tsang was the organizer and Mr. Dakai Li was the Project Manager.
