TC’s Convocation ceremonies and the All-University Commencement hosted by Columbia University.

Academic Attire
Graduate Checklist  ‌ 
  • Each Masters student will receive 3 tickets; each Doctoral student will receive 7 tickets.
  • E-Tickets become available on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Ticket registration closes on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Ticket lottery for any unclaimed tickets opens Friday, April 15, 2017.
  • Students may be able to secure 1 additional ticket through the lottery process.

Academic Attire is required to participate in Convocation and is different for Masters and Doctoral candidates.
  • Masters attire is purchased at the CU Bookstore in Lerner Hall and costs $62 plus tax.
  • Doctoral attire can be rented at the CU Bookstore in Lerner Hall and costs:
    • Columbia Doctoral Gown (no headwear is included, purchase separately) $70.00
    • Columbia Doctoral Hood $35.00
    • Tams will need to be purchased to accompany doctoral rental gowns. $69.00
  • Lerner Hall is located at 2922 Broadway at 115th Street

2:00 P.M.
  • Process to student seating in the Cathedral.
2:00/15 P.M.
  • Program begins.
  • During the program each student will walk across the stage as their name is read. A professional photographer will be on hand to capture all these moments.
  • After the ceremony has concluded, you and your guests are invited to a reception at Teachers College.

DOCTORAL HOODING CEREMONY

  • The student procession will move to the Cathedral lead by a pipe and drum corps.
2:00 P.M.
  • Process to student seating in the Cathedral.
2:00/15 P.M.
  • Program begins.
  • Approximately ½ way through the ceremony, students will be directed to a reader podium on stage where they will turn in their name card to their department chair. Their name will be read and students will walk across the stage to be hooded by Provost Tom James. They will then shake hands with Susan Fuhrman, Bill Rueckert and Jack Hyland. A professional photographer will be on hand to capture all these moments.
  • After the ceremony has concluded, you and your guests are invited to a reception at Teachers College.

2016 Doctoral Ceremony Program

After Convocation

  • GradImages® is the official photographer of all TC Convocation ceremonies.
  • Your photos will be available to view and order between 24-48 hours after your ceremony by visiting their website at www.gradimages.com.
  • You will receive an email from GradImages alerting you that your photos are ready for viewing. If you do not receive an email, simply enter your Last Name, your School Name: Teacher's College - Columbia University and select 2017 from the dropdown menu. Once you see your name, click on the link to view your photos.
  • If you need additional help to locate your photos, call our customer service department at 800-261-2576 or email us at giservice@gradimages.net.
  • Diplomas will be ordered shortly after graduation provided you have met all requirements for the award of the degree and should be in the mail to the student by the end of graduation month.
  • The diploma will be sent to the DP (Diploma) address on file for the student so please take a moment to input a DP address through the myTC Portal as soon as possible and make sure that the information is valid and will remain valid for at least two months after graduation.

  • Donate your masters gown to be borrowed by future TC graduates!
  • Participate in the Graduation Gown Lending Program by bringing your gently used TC gown to the Student Affairs Office (Thorndike, lobby level) or by leaving it in one of the bins at the post-ceremony reception.
  • Congratulations and welcome to the TC Alumni Association! We are excited to have you and to see the many amazing contributions you will make to our rich alumni network and the greater TC Community.
  • So, what now? We hope you’ll get involved! There are many ways to participate in the TC Alumni community – you can nominate yourself or a peer to join the Alumni Council; attend or help plan an alumni event; become an international alumni representative; and stay connected via social media.
