Student Registration Process
In order to qualify for accommodations, students must be diagnosed with a disability.
- A disability is defined as a physical, mental, medical, or psychological impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
Accommodations
- Accommodations are adjustments to tasks, environment or to the way things are usually done and are developed on an individualized basis, based on your disability and unique needs.
Common accommodations include:
- Note Taking
- Sign language interpreters
- Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART)
- Alternative format materials
- Testing accommodations
- Adaptive technology
- Submit OASID registration form
- Provide clinical or medical disability documentation
- Meet with a staff member to discuss accommodations
Documentation Criteria
- Clinical/medical documentation should include:
- The nature of the diagnosis
- How the assessment of the diagnosis was done (e.g., battery of tests administered)
- An assessment of the level of impact that the disability has on function
- Professional recommendation for accommodations
- Whether your condition is permanent/stable and the recommended timeframe for reassessment
- Should be dated within the past three years if possible.
Housing Emergency Response Notification
Complete the Emergency Response Notification Form if you require emergency assistance while residing in Teachers College Housing via the instructions below:
- Visit the Accommodation Portal
- Sign in with TC credentials
- Click Surveys
- Click Respond
- Complete the Emergency Response Notification Form
Once the application and documents have been submitted, a staff member will contact you to schedule an intake appointment to review forms and documentation and to discuss what accommodations your documentation supports.
Uploading Documentation
To upload documentation after your application is submitted:
- Visit the Accommodation Portal
- Sign in with your TC credentials
- Click Documents
- Click Approved Documents
- Click Add New
- Upload documentation
Additional Notes
- If you are experiencing challenges getting documentation or connecting with a provider, please email oasid@tc.edu.
- Students are responsible for requesting accommodations for classes each semester.
- If additional disability-related needs arise after the intake process is complete, students should connect with OASID to discuss additional accommodation needs.
