Welcome to Teaching Residents at Teachers College!
The Teaching Residents at Teachers College (TR@TC) program has been preparing teachers to work in high-need New York City schools since 2010. Currently, TR@TC is in its second funding cycle and has developed into an 18-month teaching residency program that prepares students to be certified to teach in one of three areas:
As is true with teaching, the process of learning to teach is complex and nuanced. Our aim over the course of the program is to support our students in developing the foundational skills, mindsets, and knowledges integral for a life-long career as a teacher. TR@TC2 is designed to provide a balanced experience that integrates opportunities for residents to engage in clinically-rich, intensive teaching practice side-by-side with a Mentor Teacher, a classroom teacher of record in a NYC public school. Residents also take coursework designed to introduce and enhance understandings of important theoretical underpinnings that guide pedagogical and instructional decision-making integral to teaching practice.
However, these are only the first steps in a much longer process of learning to teach. Because of this, we continue to offer support to our alumni in their first years of teaching through the TR@TC Induction Program and beyond as they continue to develop as thoughtful and capable professional in New York City schools.
