“Where True Change Begins:” Teachers College Launches New Visual Identity

New Visual Identity Strengthens TC’s Mission

  • Teachers College officially unveiled its refreshed mission statement and visual identity on Aug. 21
  • The community-wide, collaborative effort leveraged quantitative and qualitative insights from various stakeholders
  • “Under our one mission and one identity, our community can remain united as we work together in courageous inquiry to increase our impact across the field of education, health and psychology,” President Bailey said.

Anchoring on TC’s status as a place where true societal change begins, the refreshed mission statement and visual identity will help propel Teachers College into the next chapter of its 135-year history and living legacy for social justice.

Mission Statement:

To empower committed learners and leaders to build a smarter, healthier, more just and equitable world through multidisciplinary knowledge creation, policy engagement, and practice innovations across education, psychology, and health.

“TC’s commitment to inspiring and motivating a new generation of leaders has been innate to the College since its founding. Under our one mission and one identity, our community can remain united as we work together in courageous inquiry to increase our impact across the field of education, health and psychology,” said President Thomas Bailey. “We are focused on inventing solutions that will also ensure social justice and bring greater equity to the world. The collaborative efforts to clarify our mission and story will play a critical role in helping the world understand our bold purpose — and join us in that work.”

In partnership with the marketing agency Ologie, the College received input from stakeholders across the TC community in addition to local officials, employers of TC grads and other groups across more than 50 conversations.

Receiving both qualitative and quantitative insights, the College also issued numerous surveys to broaden participation, and conducted audits to examine how best to emphasize TC’s distinction among peer institutions.
