1. Graduate Student Life and Development (GSLD)

The Graduate Student Life and Development (GSLD) department was fundamental in helping me find my community and friendships within TC in my first semester and continues to be a resource that I frequent. This office runs the student programming, clubs, events, and New Student Orientation (NSO). TC has a combination of academic, identity-based, and social organizations. They also host lotteries for Broadway shows and other fun activities around NYC and on campus. They support and help students find their passions in and out of the classroom.

2. Graduate Writing Center (GWC):

The Graduate Writing Center is an office located within GSLD that helps students with academic writing. They are a great resource — especially if you have not written an academic paper in a while or are transitioning into graduate-level writing. They can help you brainstorm ideas and organize thoughts during the prewriting stage. You can schedule in-person or Zoom meetings or stop by during walk-in hours on Tuesdays from 4 – 5 pm.

3. TC NEXT:

TC NEXT is the career center at TC. They help you think about the next steps in your career after grad school. They provide help in:

  • Resume and cover letter writing
  • Interviewing skills
  • Discussing different career opportunities and paths

Not only are you able to utilize this resource while you are a current student, but you can also get their assistance after you graduate.

4. TC Gottesman Libraries:

The library system we have at Teachers College is quite robust. This includes the resources we have access to through the Gottesman Libraries (like journals, periodicals, etc.) and in-person and virtual resources like assistance with learning how to research and where to begin.

5. Teachers College Informational Technology (TCIT):

TCIT is a great resource for new students to connect to WiFi and get support with all the necessary login info and updates. Especially for new students, it can be daunting to navigate everything you will use in your time at TC — from myTC to Canvas to setting up your email account. Students can stop by the IT office on campus or utilize their online resources, which provide step-by-step instructions.

6. Office of Access and Services for Individuals with Disabilities (OASID):

If you need any support in class or at a TC event, OASID is a great department to become acquainted with. This office works with all academic departments, faculty, and administrative offices to ensure that all students can participate fully and equally at Teachers College. They can help you get accommodations in classes or at TC events, including ASL interpreters, printed materials, and more.
