ExCELL Expands Its Impact
The Exceptional Coaching for Early Language and Literacy (ExCELL) professional development (PD) program continues to grow under leadership from Dr. Carol Scheffner Hammer (PI, Teachers College Columbia University) and Dr. Barbara A. Wasik (Co-PI, Temple University).
ExCELL has been refined over 30 years of research. The online program uses a coaching-based model to help early childhood educators implement evidence-based strategies for promoting language and literacy development in their classrooms. ExCELL strategies are designed with dual language learners in mind but works for all students, including children with disabilities. The ExCELL program is available for preschool through first grade and includes online modules tailored to teachers' roles in the classroom, year-round support from an ExCELL coach, and an abundance of multilingual resources. You can explore more about ExCELL by visiting https://excelle.org/.
This year the team worked intensively on scaling up ExCELL and initiated a new partnership with a school district in Massachusetts. The team gathered information regarding making the PD available to a wider audience of programs, including interviewing educators and leaders across the country about their professional development needs and decision making process. A LinkedIn page for ExCELL is now active at linkedin.com/company/excell-pd. Connect with us to stay updated as ExCELL expands its reach!
