Research Interests: My research interests lie within contexts of multicultural and multilingual educational settings due to migration. Specifically, I’m interested in how language-in-education policy is reflected in the classroom and what role language plays in the formation of a students’ (cultural) identity. Key words: multilingual education, inclusive teaching and curriculum, identity, intercultural communication, cultural competence.

Dissertation Topic: I am broadly interested in the topics of immigration and multilingualism in school settings. While my dissertation research will focus on Spain, I have also conducted research in Italy, examining the use of Ischian on the island of Ischia.

Research and Scholarly Interests:
My research and scholarly interests lie in the field of language issues in comparative and international education, and particularly in bi-/multilingual education efforts in the so-called global South, that brings non-dominant languages into the educational system. My dissertation research focuses on the role of key advocates in language-in-education policy change and their life stories in Senegal.

Bio: Cassondra Puls is Research Advisor at the Women’s Refugee Commission. An expert in qualitative and mixed-method data collection with crisis-affected children, adolescents, and women, she advises WRC’s research, monitoring, and evaluation efforts across WRC’s program areas in order to advance robust, ethical, and inclusive data collection, analysis, and reporting to inform WRC’s programming and advocacy. Cassondra was a founding member of the WRC Research Unit, within which she coordinates research training and capacity-building of WRC staff and leads on internal organizational measurement and learning initiatives. Prior to joining WRC in 2018, Cassondra served with the International Rescue Committee. Cassondra was a Fulbright Fellow, and she obtained her MA in International Educational Development from Columbia University Teachers College and her BA in sociolinguistics from Georgetown University.
