Diagnostic Links Between Risk for Aspiration, Physical Function and Physical Activity in People with Parkinson’s Disease

The Diagnostic Links Between Aspiration for Risk of Falls for Parkinson Disease, or PD-Links, study evaluates the relationship between upper airway dysfunction and balance and fall risk in Parkinson’s disease. Choking and traumatic falls are seen later in PD progression, so earlier signs of decreased physical movement ability (like lack of balance, difficulty walking smoothly, difficulty in coughing) may be signs that could allow physical therapists to help increase physical movement ability in later stages of PD through programs that work to prevent the decrease in ability to engage in physical activity. This study is actively recruiting.
