Welcome to the Comparative and International Education & International Educational Development Programs website!

Welcome!

A warm welcome to all! We are looking forward to an exciting year in the International Educational Development (IED) and Comparative and International Education (CIE) programs. We have had to say goodbye to Dr. Fran Vavrus, who is now teaching at the University of Minnesota; Dr. Ofelia Garcia, who has joined the faculty at the City University of New York; and Dr. Andrew Okolie, who has returned to work in Nigeria. Additionally, both Dr. Lesley Bartlett and Dr. Francisco Rivera-Batiz are on sabbatical this academic year. At the same time, we are happy to welcome a number of new faculty members to our programs, including Dr. Carlos Ornelas, Dr. Zeena Zakharia, Dr. Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher, and Dr. Louis Cristillo.

This year, I am serving as the Program Coordinator, Ms. Annie Smiley as the Program Assistant, and Ms. Chris Pagen as the Masters Peer Advisor. Please direct all general program questions, as well as inquiries concerning doctoral requirements to Annie Smiley in 374 Grace Dodge Hall (smiley@tc.edu). Chris Pagen will be available in 372 Grace Dodge Hall to discuss all matters relating to the MA and EdM programs (pagen@tc.edu), and I will be available to discuss important program matters with students during my office hours beginning September 8.

We believe this will be an exciting year for the IED and CIE programs. Our own Dr. Gita Steiner-Khamsi, the President-Elect of the Comparative and International Education Society for this year, will be hosting the annual conference this March in South Carolina. With new faculty and new students comes renewed energy for research and projects related to the field of international education, and we are happy that you will each have the opportunity to be part of this dynamic community of committed scholars and activists.

With warm regards to all,

Hope Leichter
