In the wake of the Columbine High tragedy, many are realizing that teacher responsibilities are changing. In addition to teaching an academic subject, teachers also need to be able to recognize the behavior patterns of a disturbed student, according to an article which appeared in The Newark Star-Ledger on April 23. The article was titled, "Horror at Columbine High-Psychology Now Part of School Job Description."

Marla Brassard, an associate professor of psychology and education at Teachers College, was quoted in the article. She commented on the newness of the need for teachers to be trained in identifying problem kids and the increased stress levels often now associated with the job.
