Psychologists Critical of Program

With less than a tenth of the millions of New Yorkers eligible to receive counseling under Project Liberty, some experts feel the money could be better spent.

"Frankly, it's not clear that there is a need for what they are proposing to do," said Dr. George Bonanno, trauma expert at Teachers College, Columbia University. "The mental health profession tends to think that therapy is the solution to every psychological event. There is a very real possibility that a lot of people don't need therapy."
