NRC Data May Not Make Its Way into Classrooms

Beatrice Bridglall, the assistant director of the Institute for Urban & Minority Education, sees the National Research Council as helping to bridge the gap between research and practice with its most recent publication.
Beatrice Bridglall, the assistant director of the Institute for Urban & Minority Education, sees the National Research Council as helping to bridge the gap between research and practice with its most recent publication.  NRC aims to help teachers in this area with the release of a volume designed to put the findings identified in its previous research into effective practice. 

Although Bridglall thinks this could be a valuable resource for teachers, she commented on the challenge of disseminating research in classrooms.  "One of the challenges . . . is the lack of time teachers and other educators have for reading, honestly reflecting on what they read, and integrating relevant information in instruction," she commented.   "I am not sanguine that the main audience for whom this book is intended, namely teachers, will even know about this resource."

The article, entitled "NRC Publishes Follow-Up on Student Learning," appeared in the January 12 edition of Education Week.
