TC's Bailey Receives 2012 AERA Exemplary Research Award

One of the nation's foremost experts on community colleges is honored for his "outstanding contribution to knowledge and understanding in the field of higher education."
Thomas Bailey, the George and Abby O'Neill Professor of Economics and Education and founding Director of TC’s Community College Research Center (CCRC), has received the 2012 Division J Exemplary Research Award for educational research focused on postsecondary research from the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Bailey received the award at the annual AERA meeting, held this past week in Vancouver.

The Exemplary Research Award recognizes “an individual who demonstrates an outstanding record of scholarly research in our field,” who boasts “an unusually high level of accomplishment” and whose published research has made “an outstanding contribution to knowledge and understanding in the field of higher education.”

Bailey is one of the nation’s foremost experts on community colleges. His articles appear in a wide variety of education, policy-oriented and academic journals.

Since 1996, CCRC has played a pivotal role in shaping and guiding community college reform efforts. Bailey accepted the AERA award on behalf of “the excellent group of researchers and staff” who work with him at CCRC.
