Developing a Black Studies Curriculum for New York City Schools

In partnership with the United Way of New York City, Eagle Academy Foundation, Black Edfluencers-United, and Association of Black Educators of New York, BERC is leading the development of an interdisciplinary PK-12 Black studies curriculum and professional learning plan for the New York City schools and assessing educational equity in NYC with a focus on the implications for Black students, families, educators, and communities.

TC's Black Education Research Center will play a lead role in a landmark initiative to develop an interdisciplinary PK-12 Black studies curriculum for NYC schools.

As part of a landmark new initiative, the Black Education Research Center (BERC) at Teachers College has received a $3.25 million, one-year grant from the New York City Council to develop an interdisciplinary K-12 Black studies curriculum for the city’s public schools. The funding is the largest single grant TC has ever received from the Council.
