The African Studies Working Group consists of Teachers College graduate students with a general interest in Africa and the African Diaspora. The group aims to explore issues relating to culture, education, and humanitarian concerns through research, advocacy, discussion groups, informal learning opportunities, and social events. ASWG was founded at Teachers
College, Columbia
University in September 2003 and works in collaboration
with the Center for African Education and the greater
Teachers College community.
Please see our calendar page for upcoming events!
Congratulations to Matthew Thomas for his election as the new ASWG co-chair, to serve together with Gerard Alolod. Matt is an MA student in the International Educational Development program. Within his IED course of study, his concentration is policy with a focus on Africa. Matt has been an integral part of our organization since he arrived at TC in September 2007-- working on publicity and our website, contributing to our conversations, and bringing some great energy to our group.
