Mission

Who are we

Our full name is Teachers College Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

What do we do

1. TCCSSA is an organization that aims to enhance communication, understanding, and mutual assistance among Chinese students and scholars at Teachers College, Columbia University, enriching their lives studying in the United States.

2. TCCSSA is an organization that aims to enhance communication and understanding between the community of Chinese students and scholars at Teachers College and other communities on and off campus, promoting Chinese culture and education in the international community.

Article I The name of the organization

The name of this organization shall be the Teachers College Chinese Students and Scholars Association, with the abbreviation TCCSSA.

Article II Affiliation with other groups (local, state, national, etc.)

TCCCSA is affiliated with the Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

Article III Purpose, aims, functions of the organization

1) TCCSSA is an organization that aims to enhance communication, understanding, and mutual assistance among Chinese students and scholars at Teachers College, Columbia University, enriching their lives studying in the United States;
2) TCCSSA is an organization that aims to enhance communication and understanding between the community of Chinese students and scholars at Teachers College and other communities on and off campus, promoting Chinese culture and education in the international community.

Article IV Membership requirements and limitations

All Mainland Chinese students and visiting scholars enrolled in Teachers College naturally have the membership that they also have freedom to relinquish. The membership is open to all full and part time Teachers College Students, without restrictions because of race, religion, nationality, sex, handicap, sex orientation or political conviction. No membership fees are charged, and students are not required to participate in functions.

Article V Officers (title, duties, term of office, and selection procedure)

TCCSSA has the following officers: Preside, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. It shall be the duty of the President to call and preside over all meetings of the organization and to perform other duties required by the organization. The Vice President shall assume the functions of the President if he/she is absent from a meeting called by the President; assume the office and shall be in charge of all committees appointed. The Treasurer shall be responsible for all fiscal matters of the organization; to keep an account of all receipts and expenditures; to work with the Office of Student Activities(OSA) on budgetary matters. The Secretary shall be responsible for keeping minutes of all meetings and written records of the Association; forwarding the organizations activity reports to the OSA at the end of the year.
Officers are elected by members of TCCSSA. Members are allowed to nominate themselves for office. The election process is held once annually, during the latter half of the spring semester. Officers can be reelected consecutively.

Article VI Advisor (selection procedure, qualifications, term of service)

Advisors are accepted through a process of volunteering among the interested faculty in Teacher College. If no faculty advisor volunteers, one is solicited. The service time is not limited, and the decision of when to end is up to the specific advisor.

Article VII Amendments (means of proposal, notice required, voting)

Amendments to the Constitution are proposed by written submission of the amendment to the President. The President is responsible for notifying all members of the organization at least 1 week prior to holding a meeting in which a vote will be taken on said amendment. 2/3 favorable majority votes are required to pass the amendment. All amendments must be approved by the Director of Student Activities before becoming effective.
