Action Alert #1

forward this to friends!

From: Peter Heslip [mailto:pheslip@hotmail.com]
Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2002 10:31 PM
Subject: NYC Council saved the arts! (please forward)

WHEN: July 2002

WHERE: New York, NY

WHAT: The City Council passed the budget on Friday, June 21, and decreased the proposed 15% cut for the Dept. of Cultural Affairs to 5%. While any budget cuts are difficult for our city’s arts, this is a significant improvement over the Mayor's proposal, and an important gesture in this time of fiscal difficulty.

HOW TO ACT: Email a personalized thank you to City Council Members thanking them for supporting the arts and reducing of the Mayor's proposed cut from 15% to 5%.

WHO: Send an email to:

1.
Honorable Gifford B. Miller
Speaker, City Council
miller@council.nyc.ny.us

2.
Honorable Jose Serrano, Jr.
Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International Intergroup
Relations Chair,
City Council
serrano@council.nyc.ny.us

3.
Honorable David Weprin
Finance Chair, City Council
weprin@council.nyc.ny.us

4.
Email your district council member. Find them at
www.council.nyc.ny.us
click on "council members" on the left side bar, then on "Who Represents Me"

5.
Make sure to blank carbon copy (bcc:) ph2006@columbia.edu so Student Advocates for the Arts can measure the response.
