SIE's Mission
The Society for International Education (SIE) is a student-based organization housed in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. SIE was founded in 1992, under the original name of “Students and Scholars Organization.” The goal of SIE is to promote an academic, professional, and social network for students and alumni/ae within the communities of Teachers College and Columbia University who share a special interest in the overlapping fields of International Educational Development and Comparative Education, as well as many sub-fields, including issues surrounding Humanitarian Affairs, Peace and Justice, and Languages and Literacies.
Since its founding, SIE has been actively involved in and responsible for organizing events of international scope for the TC/CU community, such as lectures with international scholars and practitioners from the aforementioned fields. SIE has established a network for students and others across Columbia University to share and exchange information on conferences, job opportunities, relevant events, and department news through our email listservs.
