Jooyoung is a doctoral candidate in Science Education at Teachers College and joined AERI in 2023 where her main project was assistance with publication of User-Centered Assessment Design. She is a lecturer at John Jay College, teaching Environmental Science focused on sustainability and environmental justice. Her research centers on Climate and Environmental Science Education, STEM Education, informal education, and underrepresented groups, including low-income populations and Asian Americans. Her master’s dissertation explored students' abductive reasoning in the context of traditional Korean palace.
Jooyoung's experience spans leading science programs for low-income students funded by the Samsung Dream Foundation, teaching at the Manhattan Korean School, and working at John Jay College, a Minority-Serving Institution. She is involved in developing new programs at Columbia’s Climate School and supports research as a Graduate Research Assistant in TC.
Xiaoxue Du worked at AERI from 2019-2024, initially as a doctoral student at the Program of Instructional Technology and Media at Teachers College, Columbia University, and later, as a postdoctoral researcher in special education at M.I.T. Her current research focuses on assessment and instrument design focusing on teachers’ use of assistive technology in complex, special education classrooms. Xiaoxue holds an Ed.M degree in Instructional Technology and Media, and an M.A. degree certificate for Technology Specialists from Teachers College, Columbia University.
