Symposium Description
This international symposium, John Dewey and Educational Transformation: Global Experiences, honors the enduring impact of John Dewey, one of the most influential philosophers and education reformers in modern history. Celebrated for his groundbreaking ideas such as “learning by doing,” “education as life,” and “school as society,” Dewey’s legacy continues to shape educational systems around the world.
Hosted jointly by the Center on Chinese Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and the Faculty of Education at East China Normal University, this event convenes leading scholars and educators from China and the United States to explore how Dewey’s educational philosophy is being inherited, developed, and localized in response to contemporary global challenges.
Held at a time when education reform and intercultural dialogue are more important than ever, the symposium will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and book launches. This is a unique opportunity to reimagine the future of education through the lens of Deweyan thought.
