Scope & Vision
The Algerian Integrated Content and Language in Higher Education Community of Practice (ICLHE CoP) is concerned with the professional and scientific development of Algerian academics who are involved and/or interested in promoting and strengthening the use of English as a medium of instruction in the Algerian higher education context. It includes researchers in different disciplines, subject-matter instructors, and English language instructors in Algerian higher education institutions, English language teacher trainers in different Algerian Teachers Colleges (ENSs), and applied linguists in English language departments working in the Algerian higher education setting.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Algerian ICLHE CoP is to build and develop a national network of lecturer-researchers in the language and subject matter areas in order to promote excellence in the Algerian English-based higher education system and to create a high quality English-based professional environment for higher education teachers. This includes such activities as sharing techniques, methods, resources, and ideas; it also entails establishing training and research opportunities among the members of the community and exchanges with local, national, and international members. Communication, sharing, and exchange among the members is realized through diverse means such as scientific and professional events (seminars, workshops, conferences), the community’s website and online research center (e-library), and potentially an ICLHE research journal.
Values
The ICLHE CoP comprises a community of members coming not only from the different regions of Algeria but also from neighboring North African and other countries where the Englishization of higher education has become a common perspective. Accordingly, our community supports all its members regardless of their social, ethnic, linguistic and/or national backgrounds. This includes developing a positive and tolerant environment where everyone is able to share his/her views and works freely. As such, the values of equity, tolerance, and mutual respect are paramount for the successful realization of the community’s goals.
At a more practical level, ICLHE’s CoP enhances the development of a spirit of solidarity, life-long learning, and mutual sharing among all the members of the community. It is only with such values that the members may feel true alliance with our community. Given that the community includes academic researchers and lecturers from national and international institutional backgrounds, the reputation of the CoP imposes on us the need to respect ethical practices in use all around the world. As such, the use of scientific and professional materials and resources should always be in accordance with the respect of intellectual property.
