Travel through the rich 50-year history of the Edmund W. Gordon Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) and learn about its exciting future in an all-day celebration!

The program will start with a keynote by Barry Goldenberg, Research Fellow at IUME and Lecturer of Education Sciences at the University of California – Irvine, recounting IUME’s history and honoring its legacy and will end with a keynote by IUME’s Director, Ezekiel Dixon-Román, in which he will lay out his vision and make major announcements about IUME’s future direction.

A couple of panel sessions featuring renowned scholars and researchers will provide an overview of the areas of focus for the research and practice currently taking place at IUME:

Session I: Radically Transforming Pedagogy, Curriculum, and Assessment Featuring: Temple Lovelace, Felicia Mensah, Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, Rachel Talbert, and David Wall Rice

Session 2: Impacting Children, Youth, and Narratives of Education Featuring. Malik Boykin, Limarys Carballo, Ansley Erickson, Jamila Gerald, Davinia Gregory-Kameka, and Sonali Rajan

Participants will be in for a treat with Black Radical Love, a tribute to beloved IUME Founder and Director Emeritus, Edmund W. Gordon inspired by the Third World Press book that carries the same name.

An exhibit of IUME’s timeline and historical artifacts will be on display throughout the day for attendee's enjoyment.
