Community Health Worker Assisted Task-Specific Training and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at Home with Exposure after Stroke
We are collaborating with Dr. Imama Naqvi, a stroke neurologist at NewYork- Presbyterian, to study physical activity in stroke survivors. Dr. Imama Naqvi’s previous research revealed that almost half of stroke survivors in our community do not achieve the recommended amount of physical activity, which is at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week. There were many reasons why people weren’t active. Some felt they were too busy, had aches and pains, or fatigue. However, the biggest limitation for many people was fear of falling or lack of confidence in their balance. We are currently planning a study that will use a multifaceted approach to decrease the fear of falling and increase overall physical activity in stroke survivors.
