Microsoft Emma Watch
The Microsoft Emma Watch is a haptic feedback device which applies a vibratory stimulus to subjects, and in past work has shown improvement in those with PD to reduce tremor. People with PD often experience three types of tremor throughout their diagnosis: Resting, Action, and Intention. For the purpose of this study, we investigated Action Tremor, which occurs during movement and has been shown to impair functional skills like handwriting, drinking, and eating. The aim of the pilot study was to evaluate the efficacy of a haptic wearable device to improve handwriting and hand function in individuals with action tremor in preparation for a larger scale efficacy trial.
