Microplastic Madness is a movie and impact campaign for a plastic free future. This film is a production of Cafeteria Culture that works with youth to creatively achieve zero waste, climate smart school communities, and a plastic free biosphere. They teach innovative environmental education to foster youth-led solutions. Microplastic Madness is a wonderful film that captures innovative and impactful education at its best.
As part of the course Nutritional Ecology, we host local heroes at the end of each fall semester. We were delighted to host Debby Lee Coen Executive Director and Founder of Cafeteria Culture and Rhonda Keyser, Education & Outreach Director of Cafeteria culture about how the film tells the stories of how P.S. 15 in Brooklyn 5th graders explored plastic waste in their own community, talked to experts Judith Enck, Dr. Marcus Eriksen, Rachael Z. Miller, and Dr. Chelsea M. Rochman, and how this transformed the students into activists and citizen scientists that are moving us toward a plastic free future.
The Teachers College students in the Nutritional Ecology class said the movie was "powerful" and "inspiring" and gave them hope that advocacy works.
