Here are some frequently asked questions about the Thingspace Studio. If you have any additional questions that are not on this list, please email thingspace@tc.columbia.edu.

The Thingspace Studio is located in Macy 55 (basement of the Macy Building).

Students can access our studio by enrolling in a studio course (MMAS or Thingspace), or workshop series offered through the Art and Art Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Please contact thingspace@tc.columbia.edu for more information on specific classes and workshops.

Yes, absolutely! We highly encourage students and staff to use our studio for their own projects. That said, students and staff must be enrolled in a studio course that takes place in the MMAS and/or Thingspace Studio or register for a Thingspace Workshop to have official access to our space and resources.

Please contact thingspace@tc.columbia.edu for special projects and requests. Please note that these requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

We have various tools and materials available for use in our studio which include, but are not limited to: Epilog 40 Watt Helix Laser, Thunder Laser Nova 35, Makey Makey, Digital Embroidery Machine, Portable Serger & Sewing Machine, Dress Form, Woodworking, Saws and other cutting tools.

Our studio fellows are available to assist students with any questions they may have; however, our fellows are not required to provide in-depth tutorials on specific technical and creative endeavors. For those, we recommend you reach out to your course faculty.

No extra costs are associated with using our studio. Studio fees, which are attached to course tuition, cover the resources and staff support available in the studio. Special materials may require a fee, but this will be communicated in advance.
