TC UAD Lab partnered with the Columbia University Medical Center to walk at the Parkinson's Unity Walk 

Dr. Sarah Perry won the DRS Annual Award for Oral Presentations. DRS Annual Meeting took place in Baltimore, MD in March 2018.

Dr. Kelly Silverio has been featured in an interview with the Office of International Affairs at Teachers College. 

Dr. Michelle Troche presented at the 21st International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders this June in Vancouver, BC.

Dr. Michelle Troche and Akila Rajappa, Ph.D. candidate, were recently published in Research in Developmental Disabilities and Frontiers in Neurology.

Members of the UAD lab went to Washington DC on October 12-14, 2017 for the annual Fall Voice Conference.

Clinical Fellow Jordanna Sevitz attended the ParkinsonNet Training in Rochester, NY on November 6-8, 2017.

Members of the UAD Lab headed to the 2017 American Speech Language Hearing Association annual convention. This year’s convention took place in Los Angeles, CA, November 9-11, 2017.

Four members of the UAD lab graduated on May 16 & 17, 2017. Many congratulations to Karen Sung, Katrina Lica, and Jordy Meisler who received their Master's degrees during the Teacher's College and Columbia University graduations ceremonies and Dr. Avinash Mishra who graduated with his PhD.

The UAD and the Aphasia Rehabilitation and Bilingualism Research Labs were awarded a CurePSP Venture Grant to test the feasibility of several approaches for managing airway protective (swallowing/cough) and communication difficulties in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Recruitment for this study will start later this Summer.

The members of the Upper Airway Dysfunction Lab, attended the Parkinson’s Unity Walk in Central Park on Saturday, April 22nd and the Langmore FEES course on April 22nd and 23rd.

The International Dysphagia Research Society Annual Meeting took place on March 2-4, 2017 in Portland, Oregon. This annual meeting is designed for a variety of clinicians and researchers with focus on the research surrounding the management of swallowing disorders in diverse populations and throughout the lifespan.

UAD Members Presented at ISARP Conference in Seattle

The UAD lab was strongly represented at the 2016 American Speech Language Hearing Association annual convention in Philadelphia on November 17- 19.

Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Perry of the Upper Airway Dysfunction Laboratory and Dr. Maggie-Lee Huckabee of The University of Canterbury Rose Center for Stroke Research and Recovery in Christchurch, New Zealand for their recent manuscript, 'Does Diurnal Variation in Cough Reflex Testing Exist in Healthy Young Adults?' accepted for publication in Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology. 

UAD member and now Dr., Avinash Mishra defended his thesis this fall. 

Dr. Sarah Perry and Dr. Avinash Mishra are both contenders for the New Investigator Award at the Dysphagia Research Society (DRS) meeting this March.

Dr. Michelle Troche presented at the International Congress of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders (MDS) in Berlin this past June.

Dr. Michelle Troche and Dr. Sarah Perry, along with UAD members James Curtis and Akila Rajappa, volunteered at the Michael J. Fox Foundation Partners in Parkinson’s NYC event Event. The event hosted 951 community members, along with an additional 193 participants.

During an interview at the 2016 CurePSP East Coast Family Conference, Dr. Michelle Troche discussed the importance of family conferences and education in the management of swallowing disorders associated with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

The members of the Upper Airway Dysfunction Lab (aka team UAD for PD ), alongside Columbia University Medical Center’s team, attended the Parkinson’s Unity Walk in Central Park on Saturday, April 23rd. As stated by the Chairman of the Parkinson Alliance, Martin Tuchman, “The Parkinson’s Unity Walk is a way to help the Parkinson’s community move closer to a cure. While there have been advancements in research and therapies, the Unity Walk unites those who are living with Parkinson's; patients, caregivers, family and friends to keep this progress going. One day we will achieve our shared goal of ending Parkinson’s.”

Dr. Michelle Troche and Dr. Alexandra Brandimore, together with several UAD masters students, have been attending a variety of events around NYC to educate patients and their families on the newest research, treatment and management techniques for speech swallowing, and cough dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease and related disorders.

The International Dysphagia Research Society Annual Meeting took place on February 25-27, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona. This annual meeting is designed for a variety of clinicians and researchers with focus on the research surrounding the management of swallowing disorders in diverse populations and throughout the lifespan.

‌Dr. Michelle Troche attended the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Annual Convention in Denver, Colorado.  Along with her colleagues, Dr. Troche presented research entitled: Grand rounds: Respiratory muscle strength training. Additionally, Dr. Troche presented: Efficacy of adjunctive modalities in dysphagia treatment.

UAD hosted collaborator, Dr. Karen Hegland, from the Upper Airway Dysfunction Lab at the University of Florida. Dr. Hegland participated in the lab meeting and presented an informative instrumentation workshop for the UAD members.

Students in Dr. Michelle Troche’s Dysphagia course participated in a hands-on workshop focused on device driven dysphagia management. The workshops were facilitated by UAD PhD students and post-docs.
