About Us

Our Mission

The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) is committed to providing services that support the success and goals of international students and scholars. Our mission is to equip each student and scholar with the knowledge and resources to navigate their F-1 or J-1 international status so that they may pursue their dreams here at TC. Aligning with the goals of the Office of Academic Planning and Global Affairs, we aspire to strengthen cross-cultural understanding to cultivate an inclusive community based on a culture of care.

We aim to provide comprehensive resources and support to international students and scholars sponsored on an F or J visa by:

  • Issuing documentation to F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors needing Form I-20 and DS-2019;
  • Providing advisement to international students and scholars on topics such as immigration, regulations governing employment, and status maintenance;
  • Developing collaborative programming that enriches the social and cultural experience of international students and scholars that develops a sense of belonging and community;
  • Providing resources to faculty, academic and administrative staff around international student enrollment/registration, hiring of international students, and inviting visiting scholars;
  • Communicating information swiftly to students, faculty, and staff regarding regulatory updates.

The OISS staff has been tasked by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Department of State (DoS) to maintain school compliance and serves as the point of contact between Teachers College, DHS, and DoS.
