Welcome
Teachers College, Columbia University is beginning a self-study process in preparation for an accreditation review by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The self-study is a critical step in the accreditation process.
The purpose of the self-study is to assure the Commission and the public that Teachers College is in compliance with the MSCHE standards (Fourteenth Edition):
Standard I: Mission and Goals
Standard II: Ethics and Integrity
Standard III: Design and Delivery of the Student Learning Experience
Standard IV: Support of the Student Experience
Standard V: Educational Effectiveness Assessment
Standard VI: Planning, Resources, and Institutional Improvement
Standard VII: Governance, Leadership, and Administration
The self-study will also demonstrate how Teachers College is advancing its strategic priorities:
Priority 1: Build the Optimal Academic Organization
Priority 2: Institutionalize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Priority 3: Enhance Student Pathways
Priority 4: Advance Research for a Better World
Priority 5: Lead in Digital Innovation
The self-study process gives us an opportunity to reflect on what we do and ensures that we regularly assess and document the effectiveness of our work. Each working group is responsible for gathering the evidence that shows how we meet the criteria for the standard, identifying any gaps in evidence that we have, and ultimately writing a report that addresses the standard.
The self-study draft will be submitted by Fall 2025.
