Despite significant progress, educational inequities remain one of the most pressing issues across schools and districts in the US, with these issues especially urgent in the nation’s urban centers, such as New York City schools. To achieve equity goals in New York City, a deeper understanding is needed of when and where inequities in access to educational opportunities emerge and accumulate. As such, educators, researchers, policymakers, and the public have increasingly voiced the need to move beyond simply documenting unequal outcomes, such as test scores and graduation rates, and to measure and monitor inequities in educational access, resources, and opportunity, such as access to rigorous coursework and effective teaching.
