After Hollingworth

As an early childhood center we make an unwavering commitment to support our families as they seek ongoing schools for their children. We begin meeting with parents the spring before the start of the Kindergarten process. In addition to group meetings, we offer ongoing individual support to each of our families throughout the process as they explore and pursue options for their child's ongoing education. This partnership with parents is guided by the shared goal of ensuring each a robust match for each child. To this essential work Hollingworth brings over 35 years of expertise. Hollingworth Preschool children are happily situated in a range of schools including: a variety of independent schools such as co-ed, all-girls schools, and all-boys schools; and progressive and traditional schools. Public school matriculations include G&T citywide and district programs, Hunter, and neighborhood schools throughout New York.

For public schools, our children have attended neighborhood zoned schools, Special Music School, district and city-wide G&T programs such as Lower Lab, NEST+m, and Anderson; and Hunter College Elementary School.

Hollingworth children  have attended independent schools including Avenues: The Allen-Stevenson School, Bank Street School for Children, Beit Rabban Day School, The Brearley School, The Browning School, Calhoun School, The Cathedral School, The Chapin School, City and Country School, Collegiate School, Convent of the Sacred Heart School, The Dalton School, Ethical Culture-Fieldston School, The Heschel School, The Horace Mann School, IDEAL School, Manhattan Country School, Marymount School, The Nightingale-Bamford School, Packer Collegiate Institute, Poly Prep Country Day School, Ramaz School, Riverdale Country School, Rodeph Sholom School, Saint Ann’s School, Saint Ignatius Loyola, The School at Columbia University, The Spence School, The Speyer Legacy School, St. Bernard’s School, St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s School, Trevor Day School, and Trinity School.

The central piece of our admissions process at Hollingworth Preschool is building our school community. Beginning with each child, we focus our attention first on the engagement and enjoyment of each child. We truly believe there is much to children’s holistic profiles (including personalities, learning styles, and more!)  that influence how a community of children, loved ones, and teachers come together. It is our hope that our school community will be reflective of the amazing diversity of New York City. From our observations during the admissions process we review each child’s application with the intention of facilitating engaging and productive learning dynamics and strong friendships within the class. We then consider what potentials might be offered when we gather the children, families, and teachers all together when we begin this journey called school.

There is metered parking on 120th Street and Broadway. 121st Street allows parking according to alternate side rules. There are two parking garages in the neighborhood; one at Riverside Church and the other on 122nd Street at Broadway.

TC students are a wonderful resource to Hollingworth families from incidental to regular babysitting. As many graduate students live on campus and have flexible schedules, they are often available at odd hours and/or even for short period of times. Some families utilize graduate students to transport students at pick up and drop off times to and from school.

Families with children who have young fall birthdays may elect a third year.

We welcome speakers of all languages and have the expertise to support these children as they become multilingual. During the school year, our literacy–rich classroom environment and pedagogical approaches support multilingual learners as their comfort, knowledge, and use of the languages grow.

The programs and policies of The Hollingworth Center are in accordance with the health and immunization regulations and recommendations set by New York State and New York City departments of health.
