About the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
SDC is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency within its Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. In the area of education, the SDC works with developing and countries in transition to improve the quality of both basic education and vocational skills development.
About this Project
ICREST conducted an independent evaluation of SDC’s portfolio of basic education projects and programs implemented from 2007 to 2014. The evaluation addressed the following four areas: (1) alignment with SDC strategic objectives in education; (2) relevance and effectiveness of the basic education projects and programs; (3) appropriateness and efficiency of SDC’s implementation modalities; (4) correspondence with global education development agendas, standards and best practices. The evaluation designed included field research on SDC projects in Burkina Faso, Romania, Serbia, Kosovo, and Albania; desk-study research projects in Afghanistan, Haiti, Mongolia and Niger. ICREST also examined the nature of SDC collaboration with other key multilateral agencies in education.
