On Wednesday, Sep 27, our student organization kicked off the year with a cozy fall social event. We met in the afternoon, had apple cider, coffee, and cookies, chatted about our plans and goals for this academic year, and MASTERED a game of “Set”.
About 20 of us gathered on the fifth floor of Grace Dodge (who knew this floor even existed?!), most of us were new faces, with some long-timers. We each introduced ourselves, and it was great to see that almost all TC departments were represented at the table (EPSA, C&T, ITSF, CCPJ, HUDK, MSTC, HBSE, and ORLA)!!! The discussion centered around STF’s goals for this year, and then some planning.
We decided that this year, our work will be centered around two main streams:
On one hand, we will continue to work towards promoting sustainable policies on campus. This includes our cooperation with TC’s Facilities Team, working off of last year’s SOCOTEC’s sustainability audit and report. Find our more about our advocacy here! We will also continue to advance the incorporation of climate and sustainability issues into the curriculum across all subjects and departments. And lastly, we will keep pushing TC’s leadership to start an Interdepartmental Working Group which will bring together students, faculty, and staff, creating a space for these conversations to be held and policies to be formed.
On the other hand, we want to extend our reach so that as many students will learn about STF’s accomplishments, and join our actions on campus. One issue that seems to be on many minds is sustainable fashion, so we decided to fill this year’s calendar with events like a TC-wide clothes swap, a field trip to NYC’s Fair Trade Coalition, and other workshops and lectures around upcycling and other sustainable fashion topics.
