Increased funding is needed for Food & Nutrition Ed (FNE) programming in NYCPS. FNE is essential for students’ long-term health and academic success. Healthy students perform better across all academic measures, including behavior, cognitive skills, and attitudes (CDC).
With the loss of Federal SNAP-Ed funding, many FNE organizations will rely on Food Ed Grants to provide FNE in schools. Currently, only 456 of the ~1800 NYCPS have access to Food Ed grants. Additional funding will help expand programming to more schools each year.
