Teachers College is Number One Again in U.S. News 1998 Ranking

For the third consecutive year, the editors of U.S. News and World Report have ranked Teachers College as the best graduate school of education in the country.

For the third consecutive year, the editors of U.S. News and World Report have ranked Teachers College as the best graduate school of education in the country.

This year TC shares the number one spot with the graduate school of education at the University of California at Berkeley. The education schools at Harvard and Stanford Universities were ranked third and fourth, respectively.

Every year, U.S. News prints its exclusive rankings of the "Best Graduate Schools" in the country. This year's report was printed in the magazine's March 2, 1998, issue. The rankings are based on a combination of factors, including research dollars awarded to faculty, reputation of the college, and student selectivity.

For the past decade, U.S. News has provided prospective students with a distinctive tool to help them make important choices about pursuing graduate degrees. U.S. News says that it presents "basic data that give students and their families means to compare the strengths and weaknesses of different programs and schools."

The timing of the report couldn't be better, said Arthur Levine, president of Teachers College. It increases TC's ability to recruit top students and faculty. Plus, the College is preparing to embark on a major capital campaign. "This news provides an impetus for potential students, faculty and donors," he said.

Teachers College was first ranked number one in 1996, sharing the top spot with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 1997, Teachers College headed the list as well.
