New York's Board of Regents officials are pushing for schools to recieve annual grades based upon their students math and English test scores. This plan, an attempt to hold schools accountable for student performance, could go into effect in Spring.

Teachers College professor Gary Natriello is quoted saying, "The problem in suburban districts has been hidden because kids only had to pass minimum competency tests. In many cases, we're asking them to do something that's never been done before. We're essentially asking that every student must reach the level that only college prep kids had to achieve."
