Thomas R. Bailey (International and Transcultural Studies) is now the George and Abby O'Neill Professor of Economics and Education.

Jeanne Brooks-Gunn (Human Development) received the Urie Bronfenbrenner lifetime contribution award from the American Psychological Association at the APA meetings this year for her lifetime contribution to developmental psychology in the service of science and society. She will receive the Distinguished Contributions to Research in Public Policy Award from the APA in 2002. She also received Supporting Fatherhood Leadership Award from the Department of Health and Human Services. Brooks-Gunn is directing the Columbia Institute for Child and Family Policy this year.

Janet L. Miller (Arts and Humanities) was recently elected President for the 2001 to 2004 term of the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies, an affiliate of the International Association.

Maria Torres-Guzman (International & Transcultural Studies) was recently awarded the Education Award from the Instituto de Puerto Rico at a Cultural Awards Ceremony. Other awardees included writer Esmeralda Santiago; actor Reinaldo Puente, and District 4 Superintendent Evelyn Castro. She was also awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education Bilingual Personnel Training Grant.

Frances Schoonmaker (Curriculum and Teaching) is now Professor of Education.

Ruth Vinz (Arts and Humanities) is now Professor of English Education as well as Interim Dean.
