Alumnus Named to All-USA Teacher Team

John Keon-- the band teacher at Hudson Middle school in Pasco County, Florida-- is one of 18 teachers named by USA Today to its All-USA Teacher Team. Keon was also Pasco County's 2002 Teacher of the Year. The All-USA teachers won trophies and $2,500 for their schools. Keon's prize money will go to the school's band program. Music students at Hudson Middle perfom 40 to 50 concerts a year, and the jazz band came to New York to perform for a middle school they "adopted" after September 11th. Keon earned his bachelor's degree from State University of New York at Fredonia and his master's degree in education from Teachers College.

"To have one of our most talented teachers recognized is such a thrill,'' said Geraldine Painter, principal at Hudson Middle. "`We are so proud."
