Professor of Social Studies and Education, wrote an article entitled, "Silence on Gays and Lesbians in Social Studies Curriculum," that appeared in Social Education (May/June 2003) and was judged to be one of the three "best learned articles" in an education periodical in 2003 by the Association of Education Publishers (EdPress).

STEVE THORNTON, Professor of Social Studies and Education, wrote an article entitled, "Silence on Gays and Lesbians in Social Studies Curriculum," that appeared in Social Education (May/June 2003) and was judged to be one of the three "best  learned articles" in an education periodical in 2003 by the Association of Education Publishers (EdPress). Thornton is also one of two contributing authors to a school textbook, Horizons World History (Harcourt, 2005); one of two editors of the 2nd edition of The Curriculum Studies Reader (Routledge, 2004); and author of Teaching Social Studies That Matters: Curriculum for Active Learning (Teachers College Press, 2004). His next article, "What is History in U. S. History Textbooks?" (Oxford Studies in Comparative Education) is currently in press.
