Medal of Honor

TC Medal goes to China

In ceremonies at Beijing University in October, President Arthur Levine awarded the TC Medal for Distinguished Service to renowned Chinese educator, researcher and thinker Ke-Ming Hao. Hao's writings have had a profound impact on Chinese education policy and the development of the nation's current system of schooling. She serves as a policy advisor to both China's President and Minister of Education, and has been active in bringing together businesses, academic institutions and the government to shape the future development of education in China. TC's ties to China extend back to the early 20th century, when Tao Xingxhi, who would become influential in modern Chinese education, was a student of John Dewey at TC. Today, a significant number of TC faculty carry on work in China, in areas ranging from education leadership and privatization to early childhood education, and school reform.
