Barbara Goodman, longtime TC Trustee and former Board Chair of the College, passed away in June. A philanthropist and former teacher, Goodman, 74, earned a master's degree from TC in childhood education in 1954. In 1992 she received the College's Distinguished Alumna Award.

Goodman joined the Board of Trustees in 1973 and served as Chair of the Board from 1980 through 1991. During that time, the College established the Institute of Research and Service in Nursing Education (1981); the Hollingworth Center for the Study of the Gifted (1981); the Peace Corps Fellows Program; the Institute for Education and the Economy (1986); the Institute for Learning Technologies (1986); and the National Center for Restructuring Education, Schools and Teaching (1990). She also helped lead the College's fundraising Campaign for the Second Century.

Goodman was also a member of the Alumni Council and served as Chair of the Advisory Board for the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media. Goodman and her husband, New York State Senator Roy Goodman, were also early supporters of technology advancements at TC, donating the funds that created the Goodman Room and the Goodman Family Computer Classroom for computer use in the Russell Building.

In a notice in the New York Times, TC President Arthur Levine and Board Co-Chairs Jack Hyland and Bill Rueckert wrote, "Barbara blessed TC--and all recipients of her good works--with a gracious spirit, an attention to detail and a trust in the potential of others."
