Janice Robinson, who has served as Teachers College's General Counsel, has been promoted to the newly created position of Vice President for Diversity and Community Affairs.  

 

In announcing the promotion, TC President Susan Fuhrman said:

 

"Many members of the TC Community who were consulted through this past year about enhancing the climate for diversity at TC expressed the desire to elevate the Office of Community and Diversity, as was recommended in the 1999 Diversity Task Force Report.  To do so now brings heightened attention to diversity as meriting its own Vice-Presidential appointment, fully recognizing and backing this work as central to our mission as an educational institution. Once we have located a new general counsel, Janice will step aside from that role, enabling her and her office to devote all their attention to promoting community and diversity, working closely with me to lead our academic community in this effort that is so crucial to our future. " 

Robinson received her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, her M.A. and Ed.M. from Teachers College and her B.S. from the University of Bridgeport.  Before coming to Teachers College, where she has served as an Assistant Professor in Higher Education as well as Executive Director for Diversity and Community and General Counsel,  Robinson held a joint appointment with Rutgers School of Law-Newark and Rutgers-Newark College of Arts and Sciences as Special Counsel to the Law School Dean and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. She  has served on several professional association boards and committees including an appointment to the Rent Stabilization and Guidelines Board under New York City Mayor  David Dinkins. Currently, she serves as a Trustee for the Link Community School in Newark, NJ and chairs its Education Committee.
