A strong first quarter thanks to friends of Teachers College

Fundraising for Teachers College in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2011 was very productive, with particularly extensive support for student scholarships by a widening circle of donors.

Total scholarship giving exceeded $400,000, with leadership gifts from Teachers College Trustee Abby O’Neill, for general scholarship support; Trustee John Klingenstein, supporting participation in the Klingenstein Fellows program; Dr. Sharon Nickols (’67), supporting students in interested in studying families, schools and communities; and The Lindamood Family Scholarship Fund, established in 2000 by Robert and Judy Lindamood (Ed.D., 1995) to provide general scholarship support.

Foundation grant totals are nearly 50 percent higher than last year’s total at this time, thanks in large part to significant pledges for research and program support such as those from the Kresge Foundation and the Wyncote Foundation.

The TC Fund continues to achieve strong results from both the traditional marketing and phonathon calling campaigns, with totals that parallel last year’s at this time, and with planned growth in the membership of both our Dewey and Maxine Greene giving societies.

In all, fundraising for the first quarter produced more than $3.56 million in gifts, grants and pledges, an increase of more than 12 percent over last year’s totals at this time.
