Kelly Aramaki Wins National Award

Kelly Aramaki, principal of John Stanford International School in Wallingford, is one of 55 educators nationwide who will receive a no-strings-attached $25,000 check for winning this fall's Milken Educator Award. TC Alumna Named Dean of Barnard College

Dr. Avis Hinkson, who earned her master's degree in Student Personnel Administration from Teacher's College in 1987, has been appointed the new Dean of Barnard College, beginning in mid-February 2011. Hinkson, who also holds a BA in psychology from Barnard and an Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, will serve as an advocate for students and oversee the Offices of the Dean of Studies, Admissions and Financial Aid, Registrar, Residential Life, Student Life and Health Services. TC Develops Curriculum to Accompany Edible Schoolyards

TC's Program in Nutrition has created a curriculum for Edible Schoolyard New York that makes the connection between food, health and how the Earth sustains us. By working to build 25 gardens at elementary schools in New York City, TC will cultivate the knowledge, skills and environment required to change the way children eat for life.

Emily Fortis, Edward Friedman and Iraida Torres-Irizarry received this year's Elaine Brantley Award. This award is given annually to members of the TC community--faculty, professional staff, union staff, part-time or administrative staff--who regularly go beyond the expectations of their positions to promote a sense of community and a culture of civility at the College. . Jill P. Koyama, an educational anthropologist, is Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. Jill Koyama earned her Ph.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2008; is the co-editor of School Connections: U. S. Mexican Youth, Peers, and School Achievement (Teachers College Press, 2004); and has written numerous articles, book chapters, and policy briefs. December 2, 2010 - Tony Kushner's Angels: A Presentation by Professor Jean E. Howard
Howard revisits Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize winning play Angels in America two decades after its first publication and suggests that as well as being a play about the AIDS crisis of the late '90s, it also is about history, particularly the intertwined histories of Mormons and Jews in America. Examining Kushner's playful but intricate engagement with the many angels that are mentioned in his drama, she will show how they are the instruments for his examination of what America has been and might be.
