TC Establishes Fellowship for Posse Foundation Alumni

Teachers College has established a full-tuition fellowship for alumni of the nationally recognized Posse Foundation, which has become one of the most comprehensive college access and youth leadership development initiatives in the United States.

As part of an ongoing affiliation, the fellowship will support a Posse Foundation alumna or alumnus who enrolls full-time in any of TC’s master’s degree programs that are 36 credits or less, and will provide a full-tuition grant towards completion of the degree for up to two years. The first fellowship will be awarded beginning in fall 2016.

"Teachers College is delighted to join the Posse Foundation as one of its newest graduate school affiliates,” said Tom Rock, Vice Provost for Enrollment Services. “TC supports the mission of the Posse Foundation, which is to extend educational opportunities to students who may be overlooked by traditional processes. We look forward to sharing with Posse Scholars all that TC has to offer with the hope that they may become a TC alum one day."

TC Alumnus Samson Lim (M.A. ’14, Education Policy), who is a member of TC’s 21st Century Leaders Committee and the National Director of Graduate and Fellowship Programs at the Posse Foundation, was instrumental in forging the affiliation between Posse and TC. “It’s gratifying to be able to create opportunities for Posse Scholars to have the same life-changing experience I had at Teachers College,” Lim said. “The Teachers College fellowship will enable talented and passionate Posse Scholars to discover their own paths to building a better world.”

Founded in 1989, the Posse Foundation works to help the country’s most selective colleges and universities create real diversity on their campuses. Posse recruits students who are seniors in high school, works with them through an eight-month pre-collegiate training program, supports them through all four years of college and helps them find internships and jobs as they develop careers. To date, 6,275 students have won more than $800 million in scholarships from Posse partner colleges and universities.
