Wohlstetter Quoted in Wall Street Journal

In a Wall Street Journal story about New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and the United Federation of Teachers, TC's Priscilla Wohlstetter is quoted as saying that during former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration, school principals were given more power, while under de Blasio, the current mayor, teachers are “at the heart of things now.” Journal writer Josh Dawsey writes that "Mrs. Wohlstetter said the de Blasio administration is more aligned with the teachers union because it focuses less on data and test scores and more on school culture—along with what teachers feel and want.

'Bloomberg’s approach was we have to hold someone accountable,' she said. 'That was valued over teacher voice. The new administration is exactly the opposite. They are focusing more on teacher voice and what the teachers think.' "
