To the TC Community:

Summer and the July 4th holiday are a time to reconnect with those people who are most important to us. As I wind up my first day as the new president of Teachers College, I wanted to take this moment to reconnect with the extended TC community that I’ve come to know during my 27 years as a faculty member of the College.

I am deeply honored to serve this phenomenal institution, with its shared mission of teaching, research, and practice. The College already is blessed with eminent faculty, outstanding students, and dedicated staff – not to mention a dynamic network of accomplished alumni and devoted friends. I’m mindful of our proud legacy of pioneering new fields and creating new knowledge in order to improve lives, and grateful to my predecessor, Susan Fuhrman, not only for her support, but also for her leadership in making TC a more innovative and powerful force for good.

I also am grateful and thrilled to have the opportunity to work with all of you to build an even stronger version of today’s TC. Leading well requires a lot of listening and learning. So I’m eager to hear your ideas, experiences, and perspectives on making TC better.

At the same time, I can't wait for all of us to get to know one another better. To begin getting us better acquainted, won't you visit the new President’s page on TC’s website? And by all means, let me hear from you.

So let’s get started!

Regards,

Tom
